Amendment 6
I chose Amendment 6 simply because if no one received a trial, there would be a lot more innocent people in jail. Amendment 6 clearly states that the jury must hear witnesses and evidence on both sides before deciding the guilt of innocence of a person charged with a crime. Also if you cannot afford a lawyer, the court will appoint on to you. Now although this is in the Bill of Rights, judges don't always use this in the correct way. The Troy Davis trial was a setup and they knew they wanted to execute him from the moment they met him but because the Bill of Rights does say that you have to have a trial, they had an unfair trial. There are many cases like this, in fact there are 3 movies that I can think of off the top of my head that show unjust trials. American Violet and The Lena Baker Story were both true stories. And then there's movies like Daddy's Little Girl's that aren't true stories but they are very realistic. This Amendment is important to me for this very reason. No one should be treated under these circumstances and the fact the this is a law and it is bypassed by unruly, cruel and racist juries and judges makes me very disappointed.
