Quote

For my quote I chose "I hope you will not consider yourself as commander-in-chief of your own house, but be convinced, that there is such a thing as equal command" by Lucy Flucker Knox. Lucy seems to be talking to her husband Henry Knox as he comes back from the Revolutionary War. I believe that Lucy is simply stating that her husband may have been commander in the war but she was also a commander at home and while he was away, she struggled just as he did to keep the household duties of cooking, cleaning and taking care of the kids all by herself. The last thing a woman wants to do is to work hard to make sure her priorities are straight just to have someone come to her home and tell her how things are supposed to be ran in her own home. If Lucy and Henry are in that house together, then they work together. They both should have an equal say in all of the decisions and no one is to be thrown under the bus and taken advantage of. Everyone in the household should be equally treated.
